Marion Winik (www.marionwinik.com) is an erstwhile NPR commentator and author of The Glen Rock Book of the Dead, First Comes Love, and six other books. She has an advice column in Ladies Home Journal, she reviews books for the L.A. Times and Newsday, she teaches in the MFA program at the University of Baltimore, and she lives in the city of same. So much in her life is defunct it is more like she has traveled through a time tunnel and woken up in a futuristic landscape than lived a continuous half-century. If only those fifty-cent potato-egg tacos they used to sell from a cart in front of the UT Co-op on Guadalupe Street in Austin in the ‘90s would rematerialize here in the future! Or at least the brilliant kelly-green salsa served with them. So fresh, so insanely hot, if anyone knows what the hell was in stuff that please tell her.
